10th All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation “Topical Issues of the Theory and Practice of Forest Soil Science”

September 18 to 22, 2023, the All-Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation “Topical Issues of the Theory and Practice of Forest Soil Science” will be held at the Forest Institute of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia), dedicated to the memory of Rosaliia Mikhailovna Morozova (1928-2017), soil scientist and honorary member of the Society of Soil Scientists named after V. V. Dokuchaev.

Focus areas of the conference:

  1. Genesis of forest soils. Development of modern ideas about the formation and diagnosis of forest soils.
  2. Productivity and dynamics of forest soils. Biogeochemical cycles of macro- and microelements in forest ecosystems.
  3. Soil biota and its role in the formation of forest soils. Bioindicators.
  4. Geoinformation systems and mapping of forest soils.
  5. Anthropogenic transformation of forest soils.
  6. Land resources and soil assessment.
  7. Soils in the system of sustainable forest management.

The research part of the conference schedule includes plenary, in-person and online reports, poster presentations, and field trips.

The conference will include a seminar on climate-regulating functions of soils and their changes under conditions of anthropogenic impact, with a planned discussion of the initial results and the work done by the Consortium on “Carbon in ecosystems: Monitoring” within the framework of the key innovative government project, the Unified National System for Monitoring Climatically Active Substances.
