Adjust “Aispol” information and analytical system for input, correction, storage, processing, and presentation of inventory parameters by the method of circular sampling areas.

Develop an experimental database of test site inventory parameters in AISCARBON environment

Analyze the existing infrastructure of sampling areas with geobotanical descriptions

Conduct a trial run of the proposed methodological approaches under field conditions at test sites and in existing sampling areas

Assess the results obtained during the field trial

Adjust the methodological approaches tested in the trial run

Assess the level of carbon dioxide emission and absorption based on the results of long-term studies of greenhouse gas fluxes by forest and wetland ecosystems in the southern taiga subzone of the European part of the Russian Federation.

Create the infrastructure (power supply, engineering boxes, modular laboratories, etc.) to ensure long-term monitoring of greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems of the southern taiga subzone of the European part of the Russian Federation.

Create a unified research-based methodological procedure for monitoring CO2 emission from soils and methods of its assessment;

Develop a data presentation structure for the unified national database on CO2 emissions from soils in the Russian Federation;

Create the infrastructure and provide technical support of automated year-round monitoring of ecosystem greenhouse gas fluxes on forested lands of the Federal Research Center “Pushchino Scientific Center for Biological Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences” for the subsequent inclusion into the national network of micrometeorological observation stations;

DEVELOP METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES TO COLLECTING AND PREPARING REFERENCE GROUND-BASED MONITORING DATA FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF CARBON POOLS IN TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEMS BASED ON THE COMBINATION OF GROUND-BASED AND SATELLITE MULTISPECTRAL IMAGES OF HIGH SPATIAL RESOLUTION

Develop the cloud technology for creating multi-season cloudless multispectral satellite images of high (10–30 m) spatial resolution for regional forest mapping

Develop methodological approaches to collecting and preparing data for regional and local mapping of predominant wood species and stem wood reserves in forests based on a combination of ground-based forest data, multispectral satellite images of high (10–30 m) and detailed (up to 3.5 m) spatial resolution, and aerial photographs taken by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to provide assessments for the test site network for ground-based monitoring of carbon pools and carbon fluxes in forests and verify themed products of medium (230 m) spatial resolution

Obtain information on the impact of wildfires (areas covered by wildfires, degree of damage, amount of post-fire litter) and other destructive factors on forests and other terrestrial ecosystems;

Provide tools for comprehensive analysis of long-term time series data related to the characteristics of forests and other terrestrial ecosystems, including carbon reserves and carbon dynamics at various (from local to national) spatial levels;

Provide tools for comprehensive processing and analysis of remote sensing data and ground-based surveys to verify the carbon monitoring results for forests and other terrestrial ecosystems.

Parameterize and validate the models using the input parameters database

Carry out simulation experiments to predict the dynamics of carbon pools and carbon fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems using a set of nature management scenarios and climate change scenarios

Integrate the predictive assessment system with the monitoring system of carbon pools and carbon fluxes (apply monitoring results to parameterize and validate the models) for terrestrial ecosystems
