Karelia is one of five Russian regions selected for the approbation of the unified methodology for evaluating greenhouse gases circulation in aquatic ecosystems

The Northern Water Problems Institute of the Karelian Research Centre has recently joined the Key Innovative Project of National Importance (KIP NI) “The national system for monitoring the dynamics of climatically active substances in terrestrial ecosystems of the Russian Federation”. The Institute conducts its research on the territory of the Kivach Nature Reserve in the Kondopozhsky District (Republic of Karelia). Currently, the scientists have obtained the first monitoring results with surprising data on the amount of natural carbon pools in the Karelian water bodies.
