Field works at the Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University as part of the key innovative government project

From May 26 to June 4, 2023, as part of the key innovative government project, the staff at the Department of General Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology of Plants of the Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University conducted field works to gather data in the Veppsky Forest Nature Reserve. They completed the following works:

  1. conducted scheduled enumeration in 72 permanent circular sampling areas of the reserve to study the long-term carbon dynamics;
  2. embedded chambers and measured CO2 emissions from soils in 4 permanent sampling areas;
  3. surveyed open areas of the forest formed as a result of windfall (gaps) in order to study the gap dynamics and the renewal process; established the correlation of the remote interpretation data with the ground-based survey data;
  4. laid permanent sampling areas in 12 gaps to record the tree stands preserved after the windfall, large wood residues and renewal;
  5. collected litter from 48 litter catchers; analyzed the fraction components.
