Lecture by Irina Kurganova “The Role of Russia in the Global Carbon Cycle” at the MGIMO University

According to the MGIMO University websiteon May 17, 2023, Irina Kurganova, Doctor of Sciences in Biology, Chief Research Fellow of the Laboratory of Soil Cycles of Nitrogen and Carbon of the Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences, delivered a lecture on “The Role of Russia in the Global Carbon Cycle” within the framework of the Master’s Degree School “Climate and Carbon Regulation”.

Irina Nikolaevna introduced the students to the impact of global climate change on the evolution of ground cover, the role of soils in the runoff and emissions of greenhouse gases, and explained why the organic carbon cycle is associated with global climate change through the greenhouse effect. At the event, students were able to learn about the options of practical training and internships at the Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science RAS, a leading center in the field of evolution, functioning, and environmental role of soils as a component of the biosphere.
