Monitoring network in the Kivach Nature Reserve

Employees at the Forest Institute of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences developed a monitoring network at the test site in the Kivach Nature Reserve, including 29 permanent sampling areas of 0.25 ha (50 m × 50 m). The works included instrumental forest inventory (continuous recalculation with measurement of diameters at a height of 1.3 m at growing and dead stands by tree species and age generation), as well as recording young growth, undergrowth, and large wood residues. In accordance with the approved methodology, model trees were identified and described in most of the sampling areas.
