On May 26, 2023, an expedition of employees of the Department of General Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology of Plants of the Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University in the Veppsky Forest started as part of the key innovative government project.
In the field season of 2023, the next regular recalculation is planned for 74 permanent trial areas of the reserve to study long-term carbon dynamics. In addition, surveys of open forest areas caused by windfall (gaps) are planned in order to study gap dynamics and the renewal process. Permanent sampling areas are planned to be laid in the gaps to record the tree stands preserved after the fall, large wood residues, and renewals. The expedition plan also includes the collection of soil samples for subsequent chemical analysis and geobotanical descriptions.
