Abstract. The article presents the experience of using GIS technologies to create spatial predictors for subsequent use in modeling and mapping the dynamics of forest ecosystem functions. The study was conducted on the premises of the Dankovsky District Forestry located in the southern part of Moscow Oblast. GIS analysis of spatial data containing data on the relief and hydrographic network of the study area was performed. As a result, the authors presented morphometric values describing the surface runoff and altitude zoning of the study area. The article describes GIS tools that allow for creating themed geospatial products like exposure, steepness, and curvature of the glass; direction, distance and length of the drain line, total runoff; average height above sea level and distance to the river. In addition, GIS analysis has identified the boundaries of river catchments, within which it is also planned to model the climate-regulating functions of forests associated with the carbon cycle in the future.
