Student scientific society within the framework of the work of the consortium "RITM of Carbon" on the basis of St. Petersburg State Forestry University

In March 2024, as part of the work of the “RITM of Carbon” consortium, a student scientific society (SNO) was organized at the Department of General Ecology, Anatomy and Plant Physiology of St. Petersburg State Technical University for students and postgraduates of University interested in studying global issues of the circulation of climatically active gases. The purpose of the SNO is to provide students with theoretical knowledge of understanding global processes in terrestrial ecosystems, as well as practical skills in scientific work – in field and laboratory research.

The first classes of the SNO were held on 03/20/24 and 04/03/24. The SNO program includes:

  1. theoretical course based on lectures by leading experts of the “RITM of Carbon” consortium on the content and migration of climatically active gases in terrestrial ecosystems;
  2. field course, which is planned for the spring-summer period and will include sampling, sample preparation of plant and soil samples for analysis;
  3. laboratory course – determination of pH, gross composition, soil respiration, analysis for carbon and nitrogen.

The lectures aroused great interest among the students and became material for discussions with professors of the department. The moderators of the meetings were professors of the Department of General Ecology and Plant Physiology V.V. Gorshkov and O.I. Antonov. The participation of doctors of sciences in the discussion allowed us to take a broad and fresh look at the issues reflected in the lectures.
